Running Combat Air Patrols too near to Allied bases has drawbacks. The
IQAAF seem able to intrude at low level and at speed into Allied airspace
before we can react to them.
It has been decided to change our tactics with fighter sweeps deep into
enemy airspace. As the fighter sweeps occur other USN forces will harass,
and bounce the rubble of, IQAAF airbases. The IQAAF will begin to realise
that nowhere is safe.
You are to launch from Safwan with Hornet Two and follow him at 15,000
feet ASL and 340KIAS to conserve fuel. Sweep to Waypoint 1 and then North
to Waypoint 2. You are to engage and kill any IQAAF aircraft you may run
across. Stay away from the H2 IQAAF Airbase to the North of Quatir (or South
of your sweep). You targets are enemy fighters North of Waypoint 1.
Hornet Three and Hornet Four are currently stationed on the "Big
E" in the Gulf. They will launch and attack the Al Basrah IQAAF Airbase
with MK84LD bombs. Their ETA over that Airbase is 0412 hrs.
Take a lot of fuel with you and try to get as close to the IQAAF aircraft
as you can to ensure a hit with each and every missile. We believe that
Ex-Soviet mercenary pilots are crossing enemy airspace with impunity at
night. They lay up during the day at airbases in the centre of the theatre.
They must be stopped.
US Army Special Forces scouts have reported that a large multi-engined
aircraft took off from Al Basrah 30 minutes ago and headed away to the North
West. If you come across it then splash it.
